Michigan's “3” Quarterback System Could Be Good or Bad for WMU

In 2 weeks the Western Michigan Broncos will travel to “The Big House” in Ann Arbor for the first time since a 35-12, 2002 loss to Michigan. This season the Broncos are coming off a 9-3 regular season coupled with a lopsided loss to the Rice Owls in the Texas Bowl.

With Tim Hiller, Brandon West and Austin Pritchard leading the way this is a much different team that found itself getting pummeled in “The Big House” in 2002. This WMU team has been through Nebraska, West Virginia, Virginia and a host of others on the road.

Bill Cubit's team is certainly battle tested if it is anything.

So when 2nd year Michigan Coach Rich Rodriguez announced this past week that he would be playing all 3 of his quarterbacks against the Broncos that should have raised some eyebrows. We are talking about 3 relatively inexperience quarterbacks, Tate Forcier, Denard Robinson and Nick Sheridan playing against a tricky Western Michigan defense.

Now this Broncos defense has certainly not shown anything to this point, especially considering how many players it lost from the secondary, but announcement could make things interesting on September 5th.

From one perspective you've got inexperience being rotated in-and-out of the Michigan lineup. From another, you've got speed on the ground and a strong arm being rotated in and out of the lineup. For the Broncos defense that could pose a major problem.

With that said, I don't know what to think about the season opener against Michigan. A win over Michigan would be a shining moment not only for the University but for a fan base that has cried foul for years on fake WMU alumni. (Bronco fans switching their allegiance when they play Michigan)

If there was ever a time for the Broncos to knock off Michigan, this season is certainly it. For that to happen however those 3 Michigan Quarterbacks must be pressured, knocked down and confused on reads the entire game.

WMU will also need a costly interception or two in order to pull this one off, but now that Rodriguez has discussed an issue with depth as well as playing 3 quarterbacks...this game just got a whole lot more ineresting.

Bronco Sports First will have full coverage from Ann Arbor on September 5th.
