Michigan Dominates Western Michigan in Season Opener

ANN ARBOR -- It didn’t take long for Rich Rodriguez’ Michigan Wolverines to get over last season’s 3-9 disaster. Even with several former and current players making overworking allegations to the Detroit Free Press, Rodriguez had his Wolverines ready to roll in a 31-7 win over the Western Michigan Broncos Saturday.

The Wolverines used a combination attack that featured running, short and long passing to go along with a stingy defense all game long.

The Broncos began the game receiving, ending that drive in a quick 3 and out before Michigan walked down the field scoring on a 28-yard TD pass to Junior Hemingway after a short scramble.

It was clear early on that it was going to be a long day for the Broncos; Boubacar Cissoko blanketed Broncos number one Wide Receiver Juan Nunez leaving Hiller open for several sacks on the day.

The Wolverines extended their lead two drives later capitalizing on a Tim Hiller interception on a 43-yard Denard Robinson scamper for a TD.

The Wolverines than used 3 more TD passes from Forcier and a 43-yard field goal from Jason Olesnavage to eventually take the 31-0 lead into halftime.

In the 2nd half the Broncos appeared to gain some traction coming close to scoring several times before turning the ball over or in one case failing to convert.

The Broncos only score of the day came on a 73-yard touchdown pass from Quarterback Tim Hiller at the 10:46 mark of the 4th quarter.
