It's been well documented that Western Michigan Quarterback Tim Hiller while being highly assertive on the field, doesn't enjoy all of the attention off it. Hiller maintains a 4.0 GPA, helps in the community and answers every question a reporter asks, signs every autograph and does what his coach tells him.
This is a story that has been written. Several times in fact. But headed into his final season as Quarterback of the Broncos it seems to have taken an even bigger turn. On the cusp of a possible NFL career some players may change their approach headed into the final season.
Some may take advantage of the fame, others may revel in the fans love for them, but Hiller continues to just go about his business. Western Michigan Media Relations Director Mat Kanan handed out a trading card sized Tim Hiller photo with the website “WhereIsTimHiller.com” placed directly to the right of Hiller at MAC Media Day Friday at Ford Field.
Many players would love the opportunity to be promoted that way. Hiller, simply wants to remain one of the guys. When asked about the promotion Hiller said: “I don't care for it”. Going on to say “it's nice, it's humbling, it's honoring and I understand why he does it from a Media Relations standpoint, but I don't prefer it.” Going on to say: “I'm just more of a team guy”.
Interesting response from a guy with so much talent. NFL scouts must be reading quotes like that and thinking how can we not consider this guy?
On the field there will be changes for Hiller this season. Gone of course are favorite targets Jamarko Simmons, Schneider Julien and Tight End Branden Ledbetter. Returning are Juan Nunez a now healthy Jordan White and a host of young players expected to compete for time.
No matter who's on the field, one thing to remember...Hiller only cares about them, not himself. The Western Michigan Broncos were selected to finish 2nd behind the Central Michigan Chippewas in the MAC West this season.
